Hosts, Stuart and Ann McKendrick with Uncle, Jeff Davis |
Ann and Stuart McKendrick have joined forces with other community leaders to host a FriendRaiser at their home, 3129 Jefferson Avenue, New Orleans on April 15 from 6-9 P.M. This community-wide event is free and all are invited to attend.
Guests will hear stories of friendships created through the Best Buddies programs- all while enjoying wine, cheese, desserts with an accompaniment of a classy Jazz Quartet.
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness for the need of social inclusion, programs for children and the expansion of programs for adults in the Greater New Orleans area.
These programs will create opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be paired in one-to-one friendships. Jeff Davis, an independent man with an intellectual disability and McKendrick’s 67 year old uncle, is a perfect example of a person who would directly benefit from this program.
Best Buddies Louisiana currently serves The Greater New Orleans Area which includes Academy of the Sacred Heart, Brother Martin, Grace King, Mandeville High, and Riverdale High as well as Tulane University. In 2009, Best Buddies Louisiana impacted over 2,900 people statewide and helped create over 200 one-to-one friendships. |
